Amy Nack will teach “The Magic of Monoprint without a Press.”
Sunday, October 21, 2018

Learn how to etch on plexiglass, make a monoprint without a press and do classical printmaking via three one-night crafting workshops in October and November.

The Sun Valley Center for the Arts is holding the workshops to explore three techniques in the printmaking medium.

  • Linocut printmaker Laurel MacDonald will teach “Etching on Plexiglass” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. She will show students how to transfer images from photos or drawings onto plexiglass with a stylus and then print with oil-based ink without the chemicals and acids of traditional etching. Tuition is $35 for Center members and $45 for nonmembers.
  • Printmaker Amy Nack who owns a printmaking studio in Boise, will teach “The Magic of Monoprint without a Press” from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.Students will use Speedball gel printing plates, cotton rag printmaking papers from The Netherlands, Asian mulberry paper and Akua Intaglio inks. Tuition is $40 for Center members and $50 for nonmembers.
  • Marne Elmore will teach “Relief Printmaking” from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. The oldest form of printmaking, relief printing involves the translation of ink from a raised printing surface to paper. Students will design an image on a printing block, carve that image into the block, then print with ink on paper using a printing press. Tuition is $35 for Center members and $45 for nonmembers.

All classes will be held at The Center’s studio in Hailey at 314 Second Avenue South. To register, visit www.sunvalleycenter.org or call 208-726-9491.
