Jim DeMaagd has been appointed the new Forest Supervisor for the Sawtooth National Forest.

DeMaagd, who has been working as Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Mt. Hood National Forest, replaces Kit Mullen, who retired last summer.

Nora Rasure, regional forest of the Intermountain Region of the USDA Forest Service, said that DeMaagd has worked in many different departments within the Forest Service, which should help him enhance  the efficiency and productivity of the Sawtooth National Forest. At the same time, she said, he’s good at nurturing community relationships and engaging partners and stakeholders.

“The Sawtooth is a wonderful forest that provides a wide range of services to the public,” said DeMaagd. “And I am looking forward to continuing that work with the upmost commitment to public service and appropriate natural resource management.”

DeMaagd, whose unusual name can be traced to Britain and Ireland, started his career in 1993 on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in northern California after receiving a Bachelors of Science in Geology from California State University at Chico.

He was part of the Region 5 Mineral Examiners Team, becoming a lead mineral examiner for the Washington Office Minerals and Geology Management. He also served as Assistant Director for Locatable Minerals, Salable Minerals and Abandoned Mine Lands closures before taking on his most recent job at Mt. Hood.
