Larry Carlton probably doesn’t get too excited when he’s nominated for a Grammy, anymore.

After all, he’s been nominated for 19, and he’s won four! And he’s only bound to garner a few more before he hangs up his 1969 Gibson ES-335.

You can see the stuff this guy’s made of when the legendary guitar player performs in Sun Valley.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Sun Valley Opera House. Tickets are $60 for general admission and $90 premium, available at www.sunvalley.ticketfly.com.

Carlton has been playing the guitar since he was 6. He recorded his first LP in 1968 “With a Little Help from My Friends.” And he became known as “Larry Guitar” when he became musical director for Mrs. Alphabet, an Emmy-nominated children’s show.

Over the years he has broken new ground with his trademark volume pedal technique—a technique fellow musician Joni Mitchell referred to as “fly fishing.”

He has played with The Crusaders and toured with the Fifth Dimension. And he’s been featured with a variety of stars from Herb Alpert to Paul Anka, Michael Jackson to John Lennon, Steely Dan to Linda Ronstadt, even Dolly Parton.

Carlton suffered nerve and vocal cord damage when he was shot in the throat in 1988 by a teenager and his left arm was paralyzed for several months.

But he managed a magnificent comeback.

He has won Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for the theme to “Hill Street Blues” and “Minute by Minute.” He won Grammy Awards for the Best Pop Instrumental Album for his 2001 album “No Substitutions: Life in Osaka” and his 2010 album “Take Your Pick.”

His most recent album is “The Jazz King: The Musical Compositions of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej,” which he was commissioned to do for the King of Thailand.
