The Mexican border and presidential power will be the focus of two lectures this week at Ketchum’s Community Library.

  • Author Luis Alberto Urrea will discuss his book “Into the Beautiful North” at 6 p.m. Wednesday March 6.

Urrea’s book, about four friends who journey to the United States in search of men for their men-less village, was the book chosen this year as part of a community-wide reading program.

The library gave out 100 free tickets to Wednesday’s lecture but chose to offer the remaining seats in the lecture room on a first-come, first served basis.

The talk will be livestreamed, available for viewers to watch for a week after the lecture. Hailey Public Library will have gathering of book readers watching the livestream on Wednesday night.

  • On Thursday David Adler will talk about “The Limits of Presidential Power.”

The free talk starts at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 7.

David Adler is a constitutional scholar who has written numerous books and papers which have been read even by members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

He has been the director of the Andrus Center for Public Policy at Boise State University and of the James A. and Louise McClure Center for Public Policy Research at the University of Idaho.

He also founded the Conversations with Exceptional Women, which has brought Astronaut Barbara Morgan, and former California State Treasurer Kathleen Brown and other notable women to Ketchum for two-day conferences.

His lectures are always insightful and interesting.
