Galena Lodge will close its doors on the 2018-19 winter season on Sunday—but not before it holds its 18th annual Ride, Stride and Glide Winter Triathlon.

The race consists of a 9-km. bike ride on snow, a 4.5-km. run and a 9-km ski. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the race at 9:30 a.m. And costumes are encouraged.

Cost is $20 for a single racer who wants to do it all and $45 for a three-person team. Admission includes a buffet lunch on the deck, and the proceeds go to the Galena Youth Adventure Camp Scholarship Fund.

After a Christmas week of record-breaking crowds, the lodge settled into an average winter for visitors, said Co-Manager Erin Zell.

It didn’t get the record numbers that it saw last year when snow was scarce in the south valley, but that’s okay, she said. “We don’t want records. We want balance.”

Even though the lodge will be closed, the Blaine County Recreation District plans to continue grooming throughout April. There is still plenty of snow at Durrance and the Sawtooth National Recreation Area headquarters and points north.

The BCRD plowed the bike path south of East Fork on Tuesday and began plowing north of East Fork on Thursday.

Galena Lodge will reopen for the summer June 8 with its Father’s Day Brunch the following week on June 16.

New this year; A Vamps/Dons Intermediate Mountain Bike program for four weeks on Thursdays starting June 20. The co-ed class taught by Jennifer Biondi and guest instructors will cost $200 for all four weeks.

The focus will be on body position, shifting, braking, pedaling, cornering, climbing, downhills, flow, rollers, doubles and small jumps. The class is limited to 12 people
