Belly up to a free root beer float when the Blaine County Historical Museum holds its summer opening celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 16.

There’ll be live music, a scavenger hunt in the museum, mini-golf outside and, of course, free root beer floats.

The museum has a new director—Rebecca Cox who moved here with her husband who works for the Hailey Police Department.

She is an avid history buff, having lived in Europe where her father worked with the U.S. military. He was a history buff, too, and took his family to all the great museums across Europe on weekends off.

What sets the Blaine County Historical Museum apart, Cox says, is all the personal stories attached to each of the many objects in it.

“I want to be able to tell those stories to visitors,” she said.

The museum is located at 218 N. Main St. in Hailey.

It opens just before Memorial Day Weekend each year and runs through the Trailing of the Sheep Festival in mid-October.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. And admission is free, although visitors are welcome to drop quarters in the one-armed bandit on the premises.
