Yikes! It seems as if summer just started and, yet, the last two wildflower walks of the season are already upon us.

The free walks offered by the Sawtooth Botanical Garden will take walkers into Taylor Canyon north of Ketchum today and along Hyndman Creek out East Fork on Thursday, July 25.

Jeanne Cassell has led the walks for 15 years, often with the help of others like botanist Cynthia Langlois who will join her for the final two.

This year’s flowers are a couple weeks behind when they normally bloom, she said.

That said, today’s walkers can expect to see robust stands of sego lilies, which are also known as mariposa lilies.

“I love the surprises. You never know what you’re going to find,” said Cassell.

To join a walk, meet at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden at 9 a.m. today or Thursday, July 25. Groups will carpool from there to the day’s walk. Expect to return to the garden about 2 p.m.

Bring water, lunch, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen and hat. Children 7 and older are welcome; dogs are not.

Questions? Call 208-726-9358.

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden is located four miles south of Ketchum at Highway 75 and Gimlet road.
