A freshman at Wood River High School has been tabbed the Grand Marshal for Monday’s Labor Day Parade in Bellevue.

Fourteen-year-old Diesel Ward, who is on the autism spectrum, was a big hit when he gave the commencement speech at Wood River Middle School a few months ago.

He was selected as grand marshal of Bellevue’s 95th Labor Day Celebration in keeping with this year’s theme “The Future of Bellevue.”

The Labor Day celebration kicks off on Sunday with a new stage in the Bellevue Memorial Park.

The celebration is actually a two-day affair beginning with music and food on Sunday at the park.

Sunday’s Lineup: 1 p.m. Cowboy Poets Coyote Joe Sartin with Brian Dilworth; 2 p.m. Bella Soul; 3 p.m. The Mitchell Gregory Project; 4 p.m. Jukebox Widowmakers.

Food vendors on site include Smokey Bone, Taqueria al Pastor, The Taco Fix, Sun Valley Snow Shave, Idaho Funnel Cakes, Sawtooth Brewery and Purely Popped Popcorn.

The 10th annual Bellevue Labor Day Fun Run/Walk will kick things off at 9 a.m. at Bellevue Memorial Park at 4th and Cedar streets. There is a $25 entry fee for the 5K and $35 for the 10 K with the money going to Bellevue’s Burn Out Fund. Register at www.raceentry.com/bldc-fun-runwalk/race-information.

The parade will start at noon on Monday, Sept. 2. It will be followed, as always, by live music at the Bellevue Memorial Park.

Monday’s Lineup: 1 p.m.-Hurdy Gurdy Girls; 2 p.m.-Dewey, Pickett & Howe; 3 p.m. Mia Edsall and Friends; 4 p.m. Spike Coggins and Friends; 5 p.m. 2 Gun Rig.
