‘Fiddler on the Roof’ Shows the Strength, Precariousness of Tradition

“Fiddler on the Roof” opens with a fiddler played by Lowie Watkins perched on a rooftop. And it ends with the fiddler playing the same plaintive familiar refrain.

The fiddler on the roof serves as a metaphor, demonstrating the strength of tradition.

The fiddler is often unbalanced, one breath away from falling. And so, too can traditional practices, culture and faith, points out the musical.

David Janeski, as Motel the tailor, draws the attention of the village women as he performs his work.

But--oy vey!--the musical has proven so popular that today's matinee and evening performances are sold out. So is Sunday's matinee.

R.L. Rowsey confronts God as his realizes that “Love—It’s the new style.”
