The City of Ketchum is collecting yard waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today—Saturday, Nov. 2—at the Park ‘n Ride lot next to the YMCA.

Residents may drop off leaves, flowers, grass, sticks, branches and bark in the yard waste container. Leave dirt, sod, gravel, rocks, flowerpots, bamboo, broken lawn tools and trash at home.

Clear Creek Disposal will collect the yard waste and deliver it to be chipped and composted instead of taking it to the landfill.

The Ketchum Sustainability Advisory committee developed this initiative as a way to curb climate change. Yard waste that goes to the landfill produces methane, which is 30 times more potent than CO2 as a heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere.

“The city strives to better our environment,” said Mayor Neil Bradshaw. “I am excited about the yard waste collection program and hope Ketchum residents find this to be an accessible and convenient way to responsibly dispose of yard waste.”

Questions about what types of waste will be accepted? Contact Clear Creek Disposal at 208-726-9600. Direct other questions to participate@ketchumidaho.org.
