Custom Nordic beanies containing surprise gift certificates will be among the perks of this year’s Galena & The Trails Winter Benefit.

Each of the custom-designed Nordic beanies will contain a gift certificate donated by a local establishment.

The benefit will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in the Limelight Room at Sun Valley Resort.

It’ll include cocktails, an auction featuring experiences within the valley and beyond, dinner and an opportunity to Stand for Galena. It will end with dancing to the music of the 1960s and ‘70s served up by the New High Street Band.

High school art students have created more than 45 pieces of art offering their interpretations of Galena and the trails. The artwork will be displayed as centerpieces at the benefit.

The Blaine County Recreation District collaborated with WOW: The Generosity Project to organize the art project.

“We have been thrilled to incorporate youth in the community in this project,” said Benefit Chair Jenny Busdon. “Engaging our next generation outdoors is integral to a healthy and happy community and our continued success.”

The benefit supports Galena Lodge, a rustic ski lodge 24 miles north of Ketchum. It also supports the grooming of Nordic trails from the Quigley Nordic trails near Hailey to the trails surrounding Galena Lodge.

Owned and maintained by BCRD, both the lodge and the trails depend on a large matching gift by the Heinz Family Foundation and contributions from other generous donors, as well as Nordic pass sales and the benefit. Tax dollars are used only to groom the Wood River Trail bike path that runs from Bellevue to Ketchum.

Tickets for the Galena benefit are $100 per person, available at www.bcrd.org. Call Megan Stevenson at the BCRD at 208-578-5459 for more information.
